Black Sets Second School Record at VMI

LEXINGTON, VA--Alana Black set a new Elon record in the mile, grabbing 4th place with a time of 5:45.30 - wearing only one shoe - at the VMI Winter Relays on Saturday. Jeanne Davis placed 9th with a time of 6:17.62 in the same event.

The women's distance medley, comprised of Lindsay Gonzalez, Erin Wallace, Courtney Tomaini and Black, crossed the finish line first to win the event.

In the 55 meter dash semi-finals, Jessica Hayden grabbed an 8th place finish after posting a time of 7.76 seconds and Brittany Boda placed 12th with a time of 8.06.

Hayden grabbed a 5th place finish in the 200 meter dash after finishing with a time of 28.61 seconds. Also placing in the 200 meter dash were Boda (9th, 28:79), Sabrinna Faulkner (15th, 30.79) and Danielle Gunnels (16th, 30.80).

Kimberly Adams placed 10th in the 400 meter dash, posting a time of 1:06.51. The Phoenix placed four other runners in the 400 meter dash, including Gunnels (12th), Mary Caruso (13th), Gonzalez (14th) and Carla Madeo (15th).

In the 800 meter dash Tomaini finished 8th in a time of 2:39.35.

Wallace grabbed a 5th place finish in the 3000 meter run after posting a time of 12:08.60. Kari Burger (7th, 12:16.30) and Davis (10th, 12:45.62) also had strong showings in the 3000.

Boda placed 7th in the 55 meter hurdle semi-finals, posting a time of 9.19. In the 4x400 meter relay, the Phoenix placed 5th with a time of 4:31.48.

Julia Hicks and Adams tied for 8th in the high jump after posting marks of 1.47 meters.

Meredith Weavil came in 4th place in the pole vault after posting a 2.13 meter mark.

In the triple jump, Summer Schlesinger and Gonzalez finished 8th and 12th, respectively, after posting marks of 32-02.75 and 30-03.75.

The Phoenix travel to the Big South Conference Championships on February 22nd.
