PISCATAWAY, NJ Rutgers (7-2) used a 21-8 run midway through the second half to pull away from Elon (4-5) and claim an 89-78 victory in men's basketball tonight.

Rutgers led only by three at halftime, 42-39, but stretched its advantage to 82-63 with 5:33 remaining.

Jeff Greer (19 points), Todd Billet (16), Dahntay Jones (12) and Mike Tompson (10) all scored in double digits for the victorious Scarlet Knights as did Morgan Bell (16), Clint Walker (14), Andrew Toole (12) and George Dennis (11) for the Fightin' Christians.

Elon will next travel to Notre Dame (Dec. 28) and No. 20 DePaul (Dec. 30) before returning home to play Southern Virgina (Jan. 4).
