COLUMBIA, SC -- After the first round of the Big South Conference Men's Golf Championship, Elon sits in third place after a first round of 302.

Windy conditions led to high scores in the first round as only one of the 65 golfers was able to break par. Charleston Southern's David Ryles posted a one-under par 71 to take a one stroke lead over Ricardo Beacansa of Coastal Carolina. Elon's J.D. McNeill and CSU's Jason Moyer carried one over 73's, while Elon's Mark Hunsicker, High Point's Mike Rasmussen and Winthrop's Matt Johnson all shot two-over par's 74. Other Elon members in the top-20 include John Marshall (T-15th, 77) and Keith Orlen (T-19th, 78).

Charleston Southern currently sits in the top spot after posting a round of 296. Coastal Carolina follows, two strokes back. The Phoenix ended the day in third (302), Winthrop's 306 places them fourth and High Point is fifth after shooting a 310. Liberty (315) and Radford (320) round out the field.

Round two will be played tomorrow at the Windermere Club in Blythewood, SC.
