HOWIE-IN-THE-HILLS, FL -- After shooting an opening round 298, the Phoenix men's golf team sits in seventh place among the 17 teams participating in the Mission Inn Collegiate Classic hosted by Winthrop.
Ryan Loucks is pacing Elon, recording a one-over-par 72 in his first round to sit in a tie for 10th place. J.D. McNeill and James Hockman each had scores of 75 for their rounds and sit in 28th place. In 35th place tie is Keith Orlen who posted a 76. Rounding out the field for the Phoenix is Ralph Alfieri. Alfieri is in a tie for the 54th position after a round of 78.
Old Dominion leads the field after a first round 288, four over par. Gardner-Webb and Bethune-Cookman sit in a tie for second one stroke back. Florida Atlantic (290) and Winthrop (291) round out the top five.
Elon sits ahead of all other Southern Conference opponents in the field as Wofford (302) is tied for eighth, Appalachian State (309) is tied for 12th and The Citadel (320) sits in 17th place.
Round two will be played on Saturday in Howie-in-the-Hills, FL.
