CHARLESTON, SC-- The Elon men's golf team shot a 313 in the second and final round of the CSU Spring Kick Off Tournament to finish eighth (628) in the two-round tournament.
Charleston Southern, the host, claimed the team crown with rounds of 291 and 294 (585 overall), while Mercer placed second with a two-round total of 596. The top five also included Gardner-Webb (608), Davidson (613) and South Carolina State (615). Big South member High Point came in 10th.
The Phoenix finished ahead of Dayton (644), High Point (646) and The Citadel (648).
Keith Orlen's score of 155 (79-76) made him Elon's top finisher, placing in a 23rd place tie. Ryan Loucks (78-78--156) placed in a tie for 28th, while J.D. McNeill (78-80--158) finished tied for 32nd. Matt Crews (80-79--159) and Bennett Smith (85-82--167) finished in a tie for 38th and 57th respectively.
This was the first spring tournament for the men's team. They will return to action March 15 for the El Diablo Intercollegiate in Citrus Springs, FL.
