GREENSBORO, N.C. – Elon turned in a third-round 324 to end up fourth in its first appearance in the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship Sunday on the 6,162-yard, par-71 Starmount Forest Country Club course.
Furman (297-308-299–904) captured the title for the 10th time in 11 years, followed by Western Carolina (304-315-317–936) and host UNC Greensboro (315-322-304–941). The Phoenix (320-315-324–959) finished ahead of East Tennessee State (320-325-316–961), College of Charleston (319-321-322–962), Appalachian State (340-340-317–997), The Citadel (341-350-337–1028) and Wofford (346-347-335–1028) in the nine-team tournament.
Elon leader Sammy Sue Wilson (73-81-80–234) finished in a tie with East Tennessee State's Ashley Barton (77-81-76–234) for sixth place in the 44-player field. Furman's Sarah Johnston (71-75-73–219) won a playoff with teammate Jenny Suh (73-73-73–219) to claim medalist honors.
The Phoenix also received scorecards from Morgan Olds (Tied-13th/78-78-83–239), Kristin Tremoulis (Tied-17th/86-76-79–241), Kelly Baytos (Tied-27th/85-80-82–247) and Alison Mangini (30th/84-81-86–251).
