CONCORD, N.C. – Elon struggled to a season-high 324 in final-round action on the 7,116-yard Cabarrus Country Club course to end up 15th at the 16-team 49er Collegiate Classic men's golf tournament Tuesday afternoon.
Host Charlotte (290-299-295–884) claimed the team title, followed by Davidson (302-304-298–904), Ball State (311-293-302–906), Long Beach State (308-293-306–907), Jacksonville State (295-307-307–909), Michigan (300-301-312–913), Ohio (310-314-298–922), Marquette (309-308-308–925), Chattanooga (313-308-309–930), Campbell (308-313-312–933), Furman (317-308-312–937), Liberty (309-315-314–938), Belmont Abbey (316-315-307–938), St. Louis (306-320-313–939), the Phoenix (297-321-324–942) and Rutgers (307-316-325–948).
Charlotte's Ray Sheedy (68-73-71–212) fired a one-under-par 71 Tuesday to claim medalist honors in the 83-golfer field of the two-day, three-round event. Elon was led by Jimmy Lytle (Tied-32nd/71-81-79–231). Competing as an individual for the Phoenix, Chris Wirt (77-79-76–232) ended up tied for 35th place.
