ELON, N.C. -- The Elon Phoenix men's basketball squad will hit the road to take on the Virginia Commonwealth Rams from the Siegel Center on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. Both squads enter with 2-2 records so far this year. Elon lost its last outing by a 76-65 margin at Georgia while VCU has dropped two straight - vs. Miami (69-63) and Arkansas (70-60).

In Tuesday's loss at Georgia, Elon trailed by as many as 18 points in the second half, but rallied to cut the deficit to a few as seven points before eventually falling by an 11 point margin. In the game, Ola Atoyebi recorded his first career double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Chris Long came off the bench to add 19 points while Brett James added 11 markers. The Phoenix continued to shoot well, finishing the game with a 44.3 percent mark from the field.
Montell Watson continues to lead Elon in scoring, averaging 13.5 points per game. Long and Atoyebi are close behind, netting 13.3 points per game each. Adam Constantine leads the squad with an average of 8.8 rebounds per game.
At the Puerto Rico Tip Off, VCU went 1-2 with a victory over Houston and losses to Miami and #18 Arkansas. Eric Maynor leads the team with 14.3 points per game. Jamal Shuler (13.5 ppg) and Michael Anderson (11.5 ppg) are also averaging double figures in scoring. Anderson also paces the team with 6.3 rebounds per contest.
Elon is 8-13 all-time against Colonial Athletic Association members. Six of the victories game against UNC Wilmington. Earlier this year, the Phoenix picked up a win against the CAA's Georgia State. Elon is looking for its first-ever win against VCU. This is the third meeting in the series.
