ELON, N.C. -- The Elon Phoenix men's basketball team will return to the floor and Souuthern Conference play following an 11-day lay-off for the Christmas holiday by visiting The Citadel Bulldogs in a 7:05 p.m. game from McAlister Fieldhouse in Charleston, S.C. on Thursday night. The Phoenix is in the midst of a five-game road swing and has dropped three consecutive games to sit at 5-7 overall and 3-1 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs are 5-6, 0-2.

Elon is still searching for its first road victory of the year. The Phoenix is 0-6 on the road and is averaging 60.0 points per game away from home and 66.5 points per contest at the "Nest." Elon is also allowing 73.3 points on the road.
The 5-7 overall record for Elon equals the program's best 12-game mark since joining the NCAA Division I ranks for the 1999-2000 campaign. That first year, Elon also opened the year at 5-7.
Thursday will mark the eighth meeting all-time between Elon and The Citadel. The Phoenix won the first five games of the series which began during the 1951-52 season. The Bulldogs won both meetings last year to move the series to 5-2 in favor of Elon.
In its last outing, the Phoenix dropped a 91-61 decision at Virginia on Dec. 22. In that game, Elon was led by Monty Sanders' 15-point effort which equalled his career-high. Ola Atoyebi and Brett James each added 13 markers while Chris Long chipped in 12 points. Atoyebi also led Elon on the boards, collecting seven caroms.
