Phoenix Travels to Boone to Take on Appalachian State

ELON, N.C. -- In its 12th Southern Conference contest of the season, the Elon Phoenix will get its first look at the Appalachian State Mountaineers.  Elon and ASU's first meeting of the year will tip at 7:30 p.m. on Monday night from the Holmes Center in Boone, N.C.  

This game can be heard live on WPCM 920 AM and live on the internet at elonphoenix.com beginning with the pregame show at 7:00 p.m.

Tonight will be the 83rd contest between Elon and Appalachian State.  The two squads have evenly split the previous 82 games, each owning 41 victories.  A year ago, the two teams each picked up a road victory in the series.  The first meeting came during the 1935-36 year in Boone with Elon claiming a 46-33 victory.

Of Elon's current roster, Brian Waters has played the most games against ASU with six.  Montell Watson has seen time in five contests and Brett James four.  In those four games, James has averaged 13.3 points, shooting 55.6 percent from the field.  Watson has 10 steals while Waters has passed for 11 assists.

Over the last five games for the Phoenix, three players have averaged double-digit scoring outputs - James (15.4 ppg), Ola Atoyebi (13.2 ppg) and Watson (10.4 ppg).  Waters has shot 50.0 percent from the field while Atoyebi has connected on 60.5 percent of his attempts from the field and 73.7 percent of his tries from the charity stripe.
