Miller Named to Men's Basketball Staff

ELON, N.C. – Ernie Nestor, the head men’s basketball coach at Elon University, announced today that Wes Miller has been hired as an assistant coach. Miller joins the Phoenix staff after playing professionally for the London Capitals of the British Basketball League for the 2007-08 season where he ranked eighth in the league with 19.6 points per game.

“We are very pleased and excited to have Wes join our staff,” said Nestor. “I have always been impressed with his work ethic and his intensity as a player.  I know that energy will transfer into his coaching and recruiting efforts here at Elon.”

Prior to his stint overseas, Miller enjoyed a successful career at the University of North Carolina. During his time with the Tar Heels, he contributed significantly to two Atlantic Coast Conference regular season championships, one ACC tournament crown and the 2005 NCAA title.

As a senior, Miller captained the 2006-07 team that claimed both the ACC regular season and tournament titles. North Carolina finished that year ranked third nationally and was the overall number one seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Miller connected on 44.1 percent of his three-point field goal attempts as a junior, the seventh-best total in the program’s history. That year, he also drained 64 treys to rank eighth in the ACC. For his efforts, Miller received the Defensive Player of the Year and the Most Improved Player awards from his team that season.

Miller also achieved success off the court by earning ACC Academic Honor Roll recognition and the Athletic Director’s Scholar-Athlete Award. After graduating from North Carolina with a degree in political science in 2007, he authored a book entitled “The Road to Blue Heaven” which was published as a diary of his experiences as a North Carolina basketball player. He also began the popular Wes Miller Basketball Camp which ran successfully for two summers in Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C.

The Charlotte native graduated from the New Hampton School (N.H.). He received a scholarship from James Madison University where he played for one season before transferring to North Carolina.
