SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – Four Elon golfers finished in the top-20 after the first round of play to lead the Phoenix to the top spot at the Sea Trail Women's Intercollegiate. Tara McFadden paced the squad with a 74 to sit in third place. Kelsey Johnson sits in a tie for fourth after tallying a 75 while Danielle Mills is tied for ninth with a 76 and Frederique Bruell is tied for 18th after posting a 78. Bethune-Cookman and Murray State sit tied at second while East Tennessee State and Longwood are tied for fourth in the field of 17 teams.
Bethune-Cookman's Fern Grishaw and Hannah Bews are tied for fourth after shooting a 75 to lead the team. Emma Tayler and Maria Garrido sit in a tie for 23rd after carding a 79.
Murray State's Megan McKinney currently sits in first place after shooting a 71. Joyce Trus sits in a tie for 15th with a 77 while Bethany Yates posted a 79 to sit in a tie for 23rd. Morgan Cross posted an 81 for the Racers to finish the day tied for 44th.
Laura Jansone of East Tennesse State posted a 73 to finish the day in second place. Sinead O'Sullivan and Lucy Gould are tied for 18th after posting a 78 while Mayte Vizcarrondo and Kennie Leigh Eisenhower are tied for 37th after tallying an 80 for the Lady Bucs.
Longwood's Kameron Carter and Mary Carmody each tallied a 76 to sit tied for ninth while Kara Spence is tied for 15th with a 77 and Brooke Mallory sits tied for 37th with an 80.
Jessica Wofford of USC Upstate and Carley Warrington of Belmont Abbey sit tied with Grimsahw, Bews and Johnson for fourth after posting a 75. Bambee Dela Paz and Kate Moore of Cincinnati along with Kristen Harrington of James Madison each posted a 76 to sit tied for ninth with Carter and Mills.
The second round of the Sea Trail Women's Intercollegiate will take place on Saturday with a 9 a.m. shot gun start.
