Elon Opens With Early Lead at Draper Valley

DRAPER, Va. – Danielle Mills fired a tournament-best 68, propelling Elon to a first-place position in the 14-team field after the first round of the Draper Valley Intercollegiate women’s golf tournament Monday at the Draper Valley Golf Club.

Behind the efforts of Mills, Tara McFadden (73), Kelsey Johnson (74), Dani Mullin (75) and Frederique Bruell (79), the Phoenix (290) edged Southern Conference member Western Carolina (293) and Big South Conference power Charleston Southern (295) for the top spot entering the second (and final) round Tuesday.

Hosted by Southern Conference foe Appalachian State, the tournament marks the season opener for Elon.
