Rain Halts Men's Tennis Match

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Inclement weather in the Charleston area halted the Elon men’s tennis team’s match against The Citadel on Sunday afternoon. The Bulldogs held a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point before the rain moved in. Singles action will resume on Tuesday, March 23 at 1 p.m. at the Earle Tennis Center.

Elon’s Philip Nemec and Cody Stauffer-MacDowell earned a hard-fought 9-7 win over Derek Dickey and David Orces at number two doubles. On court three, Josh Cook and Luis Morett defeated Elon’s Clark Howell and Eric Turner, 8-5, leaving the top doubles match to determine the team point.

With the match tied at seven, Alberto Rojas and Chase Helpingstine won the next game to give Elon the slight advantage. The Citadel’s Yufo Sutantio and Alberto Diaz battled back and won the final two games to take a 9-8 victory and give the Bulldogs the early lead.

Before completing the match at The Citadel, Elon will face off against College of Charleston at 2:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon.
