SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- After playing 36 holes on day one of the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational, the Elon Phoenix men's golf team sits in the middle of the pack. Elon followed up a first round 291 with a 293 for a score of 584 to sit in seventh place at the 13-team event. East Tennessee State leads the field with a two-round total of 562 (285-277).
Scott Hockemeyer went one-under par on his first round before shooting an even-par 72 on his final 18 holes. Hockemeyer's 143 has him in a tie for 11th after day one.
Jayson Judy (73-74) and
Stephen Dressel (75-72) both finished at 147 after two rounds to tie for 29th. Dressel posted 11 birdies during his 36 holes, the third-highest total in the field of 75 golfers.
Mike Fekete went even-par on his first 18 holes before going five-over on his final 18 to sit at 149 (72-77) and in a tie for 42nd.
Phil Bartholomew's 154 (79-75) has him in a tie for 65th.
Miller Robins is in a tie for 71st. Robins, competing as an individual, shot a 156 (76-80) on day one.
East Tennessee State's Michael Stewart went six-under at 138 (72-66) to hold a one-stroke advantage over his teammate Seamus Power (68-71--139) for the individual lead.
ETSU's overall lead is seven shots over Charleston Southern (293-276--569). Host Wofford sits third with a 574 (287-287) with USC Upstate (292-295--576) and Stetson (288-290--578) rounding out the top five spots.
Southern Conference foe Samford is sixth with a two-round score of 579 (292-287). The Phoenix holds a one-shot edge on High Point (295-290--585) entering Tuesday's final round of play.
