Elon Distance Harriers Rewrite Record Book
After coming off a strong 2012 cross country campaign, the Elon women distance runners have continued that success while transitioning towards the indoor track and field season. Last week at the Penn State National,
Emily Tryon broke her own school-record in 3,000-meter run with a new personal-record of 10:03.87 and crossing the line in seventh overall.
Tryon was one of three Phoenix runners in the race to set new record times and rewrite the all-time performance list.
Tereza Novotna had a time of 10:04.13 while
Allyson Oram clocked in at 10:07.73, the second and third fastest times on the performance list, respectively. The pair also finished in the top-10 of the race. Novotna now holds the second-fastest marks on the Elon all-time performance list in both the 3K and one-mile run (5:01 at the Wake Forest Invitational).
Christine Pacewicz ran a new personal-record of 5:11.80 in the one-mile run at Penn State, breaking into the top-five on the all-time performance list on Saturday, Jan 26.
Griffin Quickly Making an Impact
Elon freshman
Sydney Griffin has made an immediate impact with the Phoenix this season. The Marietta, Ga., native ran a 8.77 in the 60-meter hurdles in her first collegiate meet, the Liberty Kickoff on Dec. 1, the second-fastest mark on the program’s all-time performance list and finished third overall. She improved on that mark in her second meet, the Wake Forest Invitational on Jan. 19, by clocking a time of 8.76. She set a new personal-record at the Penn State National last weekend with a qualifying time of 8.73.
Griffin has shown equal improvement in the 200-meter dash this season. She ran a 25:53 at the Wake Forest Invitational before clocking in at 25.40 at the Penn State National last Saturday, Jan. 26, breaking into the top-five on the performance list.
