Final Results
HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Despite a light rain that fell for much of Tuesday, the 18 teams competing in the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate were able to play the final five holes of round two and play a complete third round to complete the tournament.
In its first tournament of the spring Elon posted a three-round score of 925 (309-309-307) to tie for 13th.
Leading the way for the maroon and gold was
Stuart Kaufman. Kaufman rallied from a first-round 81 to place 30th among the 90 individuals in the field with a final mark of 225 (81-71-73). His 12 birdies over his three rounds were tied for the third-most in the tournament.
Kaufman was followed by
Jack Adkins who tied for 35th with a score of 229 (72-76-81). Adkins notched 34 pars over his 54 holes of play in the event.
Placing in a tie for 57th was
Dylan Morgan who shot a 236 (82-74-80). He was followed by
John Somers who tied for 83rd with a 244 (77-88-79) and
Troy Beaver who placed in a tie for 86th with a mark of 250 (79-96-75).
Individual medalist honors went to South Florida's Trey Valentine who carded a 212 (69-73-70).
Georgia Southern, ranked 51st in the GolfWeek rankings, took home the team title with a three-round score of 879 (296-290-293).
The rest of the top five consisted of host Francis Marion (291-300-296--887), Richmond (292-291-305--888), 77th-ranked South Florida (297-298-293--888) and 94th-rated Davidson (299-294-306--899).
Elon's 925 placed the Phoenix in a tie with fellow Southern Conference member Western Carolina (313-299-313).
The Phoenix will next compete at the Davidson College Invitational in Davidson, N.C., on March 4-5.
