RALEIGH, N.C. -- Elon men's golfer John Somers recently competed in the 4th North Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship and advanced to the Round of 32 before bowing out of the tournament.

Somers, who will be a senior this year, was strong in over his two rounds of stroke play, finishing with a mark of 133 to tie for fourth among the 130 players in the field.  Somers posted a first-round score of 68 (-3) before following up with a 65 (-9) in round two.  Over the 36 stroke play holes, Somers notched 10 birdies and two eagles.

In the Round of 32, Somers faced Wesley Conover of Holly Springs, N.C. and fell by a 6&4 mark.
