ELON, N.C. – Before it begins a lengthy four-game road swing, the Elon University men's basketball team will host the Central Pennsylvania Knights on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at Alumni Gym.
Watch the game live on Phoenix All-Access.
Â
ELON VS. CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA: Sunday marks the second meeting between the two schools. Elon claimed a 126-78 win over CPC last season on Dec. 19. Elon's 126 points scored against the Knights marked the most in a single game in program history, besting the previous mark of 124 set in 1955 versus DuPont.
Â
LOOKING BACK: Elon claimed a 111-55 win over the Virginia University of Lynchburg on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Alumni Gym. Five players scored in double figures in the victory, as Elon led from start to finish.
Kevin Blake took the opening tip in for a dunk and it was all Elon from there.
Â
LOOKING AHEAD: Following Sunday's game vs. Central Penn, Elon hits the road for its next four games. The Phoenix takes on Mizzou on Dec. 11 before traveling to nearby Cameron Indoor Stadium to face Duke on Dec. 15. The Phoenix plays at UNCG on Dec. 20 before wrapping up the road swing on Dec. 22 at Kennesaw State.
Â
BEYOND THE ARC: With four threes against VUL on Dec. 2,
Tanner Samson now has 163 in his career (ninth in school history). Samson needs one triple to pass TJ Douglas for eighth in Elon history.
Jack Isenbarger '14 ranks first in school history in career threes made with 264.
Â
RARE COMPANY: Tanner Samson's eight triples against Northwestern are tied for the second most in a single game since Elon made the transition to the Division I ranks. Matt Nowlin hit eight threes against UNCG on Feb. 7, 2004, while Drew Spradlin knocked down eight against Chattanooga on Jan. 23, 2010.
Sebastian Koch hit eight triples last season against Central Penn. Koch holds the Elon single-game record with nine threes in last year's game at 21st-ranked Colorado.
Â
MARGIN OF VICTORY: Elon's 56-point win over the Virginia University of Lynchburg Dragons on Dec. 2 marked the largest margin of victory during
Matt Matheny's tenure. The previous record was 50 points set in last year's 114-64 win over Washington & Lee.
Â
ON THE BOARDS: Elon's 67 rebounds against VUL on Dec. 2 marks only the third time since 2005 the team has grabbed 60+ rebounds in a game. Elon hauled down 60 boards in last year's game vs. Central Penn. In 2005, the Phoenix hauled down 67 against Guilford.
Â
GETTING DEFENSIVE: Elon ranks second in the CAA in opponent three-point field goal percentage at 28.7 percent, trailing only Towson (27.8 percent). Elon's 6.2 steals per game is tied for third in the league, while the Phoenix leads the CAA in turnover margin at +2.50.
Â
BRYANT HONORED AGAIN: Elon freshman guard
Elijah Bryant earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors on Dec. 1 for the second time this season. Bryant averaged 12.7 points in Elon's 2-1 week. Bryant scored a team-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds in a 74-73 win over Morgan State, had 10 points in a 70-68 victory at Miami (Ohio) and also scored 10 in a loss to North Florida. Bryant, who has scored double figures in all six games this season, was named to the Cancun Challenge Mayan Division All-Tournament team for his performance. He is the leading scorer among CAA rookies.
Â
HOME SLATE: Elon has just one remaining home game in 2014 following Sunday's contest vs. Central Penn, as the Phoenix hosts Marist on Dec. 28.
Â
NEW LOOKS: The 2014-15 season marks one of newness for the maroon and gold. Elon begins its inaugural season in the Colonial Athletic Association this year. The Phoenix welcomes in five newcomers to the squad this year following the departure of four 1,000-point scorers in
Jack Isenbarger,
Lucas Troutman,
Ryley Beaumont and
Sebastian Koch. Elon will also don new uniforms this season.
Â
PRESEASON PROGNOSTICATIONS: The CAA released its preseason men's basketball poll on Oct. 21, as the league's head coaches predicted the Phoenix to finish 10th in the league. Northeastern was picked as the preseason favorite while William & Mary's Marcus Thornton earned nods as the preseason player of the year.
Â
LEAGUE FIRST: Elon's 64-58 victory over Florida Atlantic on Nov. 14 marked the first win of the 2014-15 season for the Colonial Athletic Association. Hofstra and College of Charleston also claimed wins on opening night for the CAA.
Â
ELON ON THE BIG SCREEN: Elon will appear on television eight times this season, including four occasions in Alumni Gym. American Sports Network (ASN) will carry Elon's home games against Florida Atlantic, Charlotte, William & Mary and Hofstra, in addition to road games at James Madison and Delaware. Elon's game at Missouri on Dec. 11 will be broadcasted live on the SEC Network, while the Phoenix's Dec. 15 matchup in Cameron Indoor Stadium vs. Duke will be carried on ESPNU.

Matt Matheny. Elon welcomes back starters

Kevin Blake (4.7 ppg) and senior forward
