DUNNELLON, Fla. – The Elon University women's tennis team sits in seventh place out of 18 teams after posting a first-round 303 (+15) today, March 22, at the Ocala Spring Invitational hosted by Morehead State University.
Kelsey Badmaev leads the Phoenix after 18 holes of play after carding a first-round 74 (+2). The sophomore is currently in an 8-way tie for 11
th place and trails the leader by six strokes.
Heather Munro and
Emily Brooks each posted rounds of 75 (+3), good for a tie for 19
th. In a tie for 55
th is
Hilda Kristjansdottir, who shot a first-round 79 (+7).
Sunna Vidisdottir carded an 83 (+11) and is tied for 80
th after 18 holes.
South Alabama holds a 4-shot lead after the first round of play after posting a 5-over par mark of 293. South Dakota State (297) is four shots off the lead after 18 holes, while Stephen F. Austin State, Stetson, Murray State and Morehead State are also ahead of the Phoenix.
Western Kentucky's Georgina Blackman used a 4-under par round of 68 to lead the pack after the first round. Ji Sun Kang of Daytona State College shot a 69 and trails Blackman by one stroke, while South Alabama's Carianna Wright and Stetson's Kristine Odaiyar and Giulia Vandenberg also posted rounds under par.
The tournament will continue with second round action tomorrow, March 23, beginning at 1 p.m. at Juliette Falls Golf Resort.
