GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team closed the regular season with a 6-1 win over the East Carolina Pirates on Saturday, April 11, at the River Birch Tennis Center.
With the victory, Elon improves to 9-12 with the victory heading into the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Tennis Tournament next weekend in Williamsburg, Va.
"I'm proud of our team's performance today," said Elon head coach
Michael Leonard. "We fought hard at every position today and have good momentum going into the CAA Tournament next weekend."
How it happened: Elon won the doubles point to take a 1-0 match lead. The Phoenix followed it up by taking 5-of-6 singles matches to earn the 6-1 win.
Notes: Stefan Fortmann and
Jordan Kaufman captured wins on courts one and two, respectively. Both seniors sit with a team-best 12 wins this season in singles play. Fortmann is 8-2 in his last 10 matches, while Kaufman improved to 7-3 over the last 10.
Up Next: Elon will learn its fate in next week's CAA Men's Tennis Championship tomorrow, April 12, following the conclusion of the regular season.
