SERIES HISTORY
-vs. JMU: The Dukes were tabbed as the favorite to win this year's conference title in the CAA's Preseason Poll. JMU holds a 12-0 lead in the all-time series and secured a 3-1 final and a 3-0 tally in last year's two meetings. The purple and gold are coming off a pair of 3-1 losses at home to Towson and Delaware.
-vs. Delaware: The Blue Hens were picked to finish seventh in the Preseason Poll, one spot ahead of Elon. After opening conference play with a straight-set loss to Towson, Delaware has rebounded with three-straight wins over UNCW, Charleston, and JMU. The royal blue and gold holds a 7-3 edge in the all-time series versus the Phoenix as both teams won on the road last season. Delaware topped Elon in five sets on Oct. 7, and the Phoenix returned the favor with a 3-1 victory on Oct. 21.
-vs. Towson: Both meetings went to the Tigers last year as the black and gold won in four sets on Oct. 4 in Schar Center and later swept Elon on Nov. 2 up in Maryland. Towson is now 11-1 in the all-time series. Elon is looking to halt the Tigers' 4-0 start to conference play. Towson was picked to finish fourth in the Preseason Poll.
PHOENIX OPENS CONFERENCE PLAY 3-0
The maroon and gold got off to a hot start in league play with wins over Hofstra, Northeastern, and College of Charleston. The team started off with a 3-1 victory over the defending conference champion Pride on Sept. 27. Elon followed with a comeback 3-2 decision over the Huskies on Sept.29, then continued its stretch with another 3-2 result against the Cougars last weekend in Charleston, S.C. It marks the second time in the team's Division I history that the Phoenix has gone 3-0. The 2006 team also went 3-0 when Elon was a member of the SoCon.
Entering this week's matches, the Phoenix and Blue Hens are tied for second place in the CAA standings while the Tigers are atop the table.
