ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's basketball travels to Towson to take on the Tigers in its conference opener on Friday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m.
 
COVERAGE

THE MATCHUP
-This will be the 11th matchup between the two teams. Elon leads the series 7-3.
-Elon last faced Towson in Schar Center on Feb. 24, 2019. Towson won 59-50.
 
ABOUT ELON
-In its final game of 2019, the Phoenix defeated Furman 87-76 in Greenville on Monday, Dec. 30. The Paladins were named preseason favorite to win the SoCon by the league's head coaches.
-Four Elon players finished with double-digit scoring. Kayla Liles posted a career-high 21 points, followed by Saadia Munford (19), Brie Perpignan (14), and Ariel Colón (10). Munford's points are also a new personal best.
-Collectively, the Phoenix recorded season bests in points (87), field goals (32), free throws (20), rebounds (48), and assists (15). The team also tied its season high for blocked shots in a single game (5).
-The CAA announced in its preseason poll that the Phoenix was picked eighth, earning 28 points. James Madison was named the favorite, totaling 81 points and nine first-place votes. 
-Elon is led by ninth year head coach Charlotte Smith, who led the Phoenix to two consecutive CAA Championship titles in 2017 and 2018.
 
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2019-20
-Elon is in the midst of an eight-game road stretch that started with the pair of games at the UNLV Lady Rebel Round-Up on Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
-The next game at Schar Center will be on Friday, Jan. 10 when the Phoenix hosts the College of Charleston at 7 p.m.
 
SCOUTING TOWSON
-Towson currently holds a 4-6 record on the season.
-In their last contest, the Tigers came out on top by a three-point margin against Marshall (59-56). Nukiya Mayo led the Tigers with 21 points and scored the game-winner. Kionna Jeter and Q. Murray also finished in double figures, combining for 28 points.
-The Tigers were picked to finish third in the 2019 CAA Preseason Poll. Jeter and Mayo earned First Team Preseason All-Conference status.
 
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to face James Madison in a 2 p.m. matchup on Sunday, Jan. 5.
