Men's Golf Places Fifth at Pinehurst Intercollegiate

PINEHURST, N.C. – The Elon University men's golf team finished fifth out of 12 teams at the 2021 Pinehurst Intercollegiate on Sunday, March 14. The field was playing at the Pinehurst No. 8 course.

The team ended up with a combined 42-over par 894 through 54 holes. Dayton captured the team title with an 885 (+33), Abilene Christian was the runner-up with an 887 (+35), and Wofford rounded out the top three teams with an 888 (+36). Butler's Logan Sabins shot a one-over 214 to capture the individual title. There was a three-way tie for second as ACU's Alex Clouse, Wofford's Matthew Copeland and Butler's Michael Cascino all posted a 217 (+4).

"We didn't achieve our ultimate goal of adding another putter boy trophy to the trophy cabinet and that's disappointing," said head coach Don Hill after the final round. "However, if you were to tell me that we would be two back with nine holes to play, I would have liked our chances. As a team we are growing up quickly during this shortened season and making great strides. I can't say enough about William Frodigh and his play this week. Going back to the final round of Mid Pines, he has been outstanding. We look forward to a few days off to catch up on school work and rest."

HIGHLIGHTS
Frodigh was the top finisher for the Phoenix, tying for fifth with a five-over 218. He led the 71-player field with nine birdies throughout the tournament and turned in a one-over 72 in the final round. Pedro Rabadan was next as the freshman from Madrid, Spain tied for 18th with an 11-over 224. Max Ferrari was one stroke behind Rabadan as he tied for 22nd with a 225, and Cristian Del Vecchio carded a 230 (+17) to tie for 39th. Josef Dransfeld ended with a 232 to tie for 46th, and Graham Hutchinson tied for 52nd with a 233.

Ferrari made 38 putts for par throughout the three days, Rabadan sank 37, and Del Vecchio and Frodigh both had 34 pars. Frodigh also led the field in par-3 scoring with a 2.75 stroke average.
