SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – Josef Dransfeld and
Max Ferrari both tied for 16th and the Elon University men's golf finished fourth in the team standings on the final day of the Ross Collegiate Classic on Tuesday, March 9. George Mason hosted the tournament at the par-72, 6,723 yard Mid Pines Golf Course.
The Phoenix combined for a 26-over par 890 through the 56-hole Classic. Loyola (Md.) won the team title with an 875 (+11), UNC Greensboro was second with an 882 (+18), and Richmond rounded out the top three with an 883 (+19). UNCG's Tommy Lamb was the individual champion with a 4-under par 212 and Ohio's Tanner Johnson was the runner-up with a minus-three 213.
"It was exciting to be back on the course competing this week at Mid Pines," said head coach
Don Hill. "We've adopted a slogan for this spring - 'every tournament is a blessing and every round is an opportunity'. We didn't take advantage of some opportunities in the second round, especially on the inward nine. We played too aggressively on a course that requires patience and conservative shot-making into the greens. However we fought back in the afternoon and posted a good number which should give us confidence heading into Pinehurst. It's a quick turnaround for us and we look forward to coming back down to Pinehurst Thursday after class to defend the Pinehurst Intercollegiate."
HIGHLIGHTS
Dransfeld and Ferrari both carded a six-over par 222 to pace the maroon and gold.
William Frodigh and
Pedro Rabadan were next, tying for 26th with a 226 (+10).
Cristian Del Vecchio tied for 30th with a 227 (+11), and
Graham Hutchinson rounded out the team with a 239 (+23) to tie for 65th.
