SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – The Elon University men's golf team is in fifth place following the opening round of the 2021 CAA Men's Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon, April 25 in Saint Helena Island, S.C. The tournament is being held at the par-72, 6,787-yard Cotton Dike course at the Dataw Island Club.
The Phoenix combined for a 10-over par 298 through the first 18 holes. Charleston leads the team standings with a 12-under 276, Drexel is in second place with a seven-under 281 and James Madison is third with a four-over 292. William & Mary is three strokes ahead of Elon and in fourth with a 295. Towson and Delaware are tied for sixth with a 304, and Hofstra is eighth with a 349. UNCW, the two-time defending CAA champion, was forced to withdraw due to COVID-19 protocols.
"I'm very proud of
Pedro Rabadan shooting 71 (-1) in his first CAA Championship round," said head coach
Don Hill. "Cotton Dike is a first shot golf course. If we can get the ball in play from the tee, there are many green-light situations where we can apply pressure to the course and hopefully make up some ground before the third round. My sense is the team will be ready for tomorrow's round."
