SAINT HELENA ISLAND, S.C. – The Elon University men's golf team bettered their first-round effort by nine strokes as the team shot a one-over par 289 in the second round of the 2021 CAA Championship on Monday, April 26. The field is playing on the par-72, 6,787-yard Cotton Dike course at the Dataw Island Club.
The Phoenix remains in fifth place with a 36-hole total of 587 (+11). Charleston leads the team standings as the Cougars sit at 19-under par with a 557. Next is Drexel with a two-under 574, and William & Mary owns a 580 (+4) to round out the top three team scores. Elon sits just five strokes behind James Madison, who is fourth at 582 (+6). Delaware is sixth with a 597 (+21), Towson seventh at 603 (+27), and Hofstra is eighth at 669 (+93). UNCW is not competing due to COVID-19 protocols within their program.
"Today was a better round for Elon Golf," said head coach
Don Hill. "Still not where we want to be on the leader board, but we executed at a higher level. Our goals are to climb higher and move up a few spots. A good final round will provide that opportunity."
HIGHLIGHTS
William Frodigh led the Phoenix on Monday as the Westwood, Mass. native went two-under par with a 70. He tallied five birdies on the day, including three in a row on holes 11-13. He enters the final day tied for 13th with a one-over 145.
Pedro Rabadan still leads the team after shooting an even 72, tying him for ninth at one-under 143.
Max Ferrari was also under par today as he carded a one-under 71. The redshirt senior is currently 21st with a plus-five 149.
Cristian Del Vecchio and
Josef Dransfeld are both tied for 28th with a 12-over 156.
Frodigh is tied for first in par-3 scoring with a 2.88 stroke average, while Rabadan is tied for third in par-4 scoring with a 3.95. Frodigh has converted a team-high eight birdies, and Ferrari and Rabadan have both tallied 25 pars.

Elon is scheduled to tee off from the first hole tomorrow morning between 8-8:48 a.m.
