ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 12, when it travels to Towson, Md. for a 2 p.m. matchup with Towson.

THE MATCHUP
- Saturday afternoon marks the 16th meeting between Elon and Towson.
- The Phoenix currently trails the Tigers in the all-time series, 9-6.
- In the most recent meeting between the two programs, Elon fell to Towson, 59-54, on Jan. 15, at Schar Center.
- Hunter McIntosh led the charge for the Phoenix, dropping 13 points, five assists and two rebounds in 36 minutes.
- Chuck Hannah chipped in a season-high 10 points, adding four rebounds in 28 minutes, while Michael Graham finished with 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks.

SCOUTING ELON
- Former CAA All-Rookie honoree Darius Burford is currently leading the team in scoring (13.1 ppg), assists (3.1 apg) and steals (1.7 spg), while being third on the team in rebounding (4.2 rpg). Burford has scored in double figures 15 times and has nabbed at least two steals in 11 games this season. His 15.3 ppg scoring averaging in conference play also ranks sixth in the CAA.
- Junior guard and Preseason All-CAA First Team honoree Hunter McIntosh, ranks second the team in scoring at 12.8 points per game, adding 3.0 assists per contest. McIntosh has scored in double figures in 50 career games, including 16 times this season. He currently ranks in the seventh in the conference in scoring at 14.9 ppg through 12 CAA contests this year. Against JMU on Feb. 10, McIntosh became the 46th player in program history to score 1,000 points in his collegiate career.
- Sophomore center Michael Graham ranks third on the team in scoring (9.6 ppg), while leading the team in rebounding at 7.1 rpg. Graham has scored at least 10 points in 10 of his last 13 games and has registered six double doubles this season. His 12.0 ppg scoring output in conference play ranks in the top-25 while his 8.1 rebounding average (4th) and 70.3 field goal percentage (1st) each rank in the top-5 in the CAA.
- Torrence Watson is fourth on the team in scoring 9.2 points per game, adding 3.0 rebounds per contest as well. Watson has gotten to the charity stripe a team-high 61 times this season, knocking down 52 of his attempts for an 85.2 free throw percentage.
- Junior forward Zac Ervin is fifth on the team in scoring, averaging 7.8 points per game, adding 3.1 rebounds per contest. Ervin has knocked down 44 threes while shooting at a 37.0 percent clip from long distance so far this season.
- Junior forward Hunter Woods is chipping in 6.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in 24.7 minutes through 24 games this season. Woods is also currently second on the team in steals this season with 28 total.
- Senior forward Chuck Hannah is averaging 4.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in 24.2 minutes per game.
- Freshman center Sam Sherry has gotten his Elon career off to a solid start, averaging 2.7 points in just over eight minutes of action per game.
- Elon currently ranks in the top-2 in the CAA in total threes made (228 – 2nd), threes made per game (9.1 – 2nd), field goal percentage defense (43.0 – 2nd) and total assists (331 – 2nd).
- Elon set a program record for points at Schar Center (107), threes made (20) and assists (27) in its home opener against Randolph.
- Seniors Chuck Hannah and Kris Wooten will serve as the team captains for the 2021-22 season.
- This season marks the third for Head Coach Mike Schrage at the helm of the Elon program.
 
SCOUTING TOWSON
- Towson enters the contest with an 18-7 overall record and 9-3 record in CAA play after defeating William & Mary, 75-60, in its most recent contest. Charles Thompson led the way for the Tigers, dropping 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jason Gibson added 17 points and five boards, while Nicolas Timberlake chipped in 10 points and seven assists.
- Pat Skerry is in the midst of his 11th season at the helm of the Towson program. Skerry spent a year as an assistant at the University of Pittsburgh prior to taking over the Tigers program.
- The Tigers are led by Cam Holden who leads the team in scoring at 14.2 ppg and rebounds at 8.2 rpg. Towson has also gotten contributions from Nicolas Timberlake (13.8 ppg and 4.6 rpg) and Terry Nolan Jr. (10.0 ppg and 3.0 apg) so far this season.

LAST TIME OUT
- Elon outlasted James Madison, 70-66, on Thursday, Feb. 10, at the Atlantic Union Bank Center in Harrisonburg, Va. The win completed a Phoenix season sweep over JMU and marked the first road victory for Elon this season.
- Hunter McIntosh led the charge for the Phoenix, dropping a season-high 23 points and four rebounds in a career-high 39 minutes, while matching a career-best with eight made free throws. McIntosh scored his 1,000th career point in the contest, draining a triple with 1:09 remaining in the first half to move from 999 to 1,002 points. The Snellville, Ga. native became the 46th person in program history to score at least 1,000 points in his collegiate career. The performance also marked the 16th double-digit scoring output for the junior this season and was his fourth 20+ point game of 2021-22.
- Darius Burford added nine points and three rebounds in 20 minutes of action, while Zac Ervin chipped in nine points on 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.
- Hunter Woods did a little bit of everything for Elon, scoring five points while leading the team in assists (6) and rebounds (6). His six assists also matched a career high.
- Sam Sherry continued his strong play of late, contributing eight points on 4-of-4 shooting from the field. Sherry's eight points tonight were his most since scoring nine against Randolph, as the freshman has now scored in each of his last four outings.
- Kris Wooten finished with a career-high six rebounds, adding four points in 29 minutes. Wooten also hit the game-clinching free throw in the win.
- Michael Graham and Chuck Hannah combined for 12 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three blocks
- The Phoenix and Dukes made the same amount of field goals (22) and free throws (15) in the contest, but Elon held a 11-7 advantage in threes made.
- Elon also held advantages in total rebounds (36-29), bench points (22-4) and fast break points (7-5).
- The Phoenix now leads the Dukes in the all-time series, 10-9.
 
THE FACES OF 2021-22
- Elon returned three starters in Chuck Hannah, All-CAA Second Team honoree Hunter McIntosh and CAA All-Rookie selection Darius Burford.
- Other returnees for the Phoenix includes seniors Jerald Gillens-Butler, Kris Wooten and Charlie Mendys, juniors Ben Daugherty, Hunter Woods and Zac Ervin, and sophomores Michael Graham and JaDun Michael.
-Additionally, the maroon and gold welcomes five newcomers to the squad in Mizzou transfer Torrence Watson, Mississippi State transfer Andrew Junkin and freshmen RJ Noord, Sam Sherry and Reece Clark.
 
CAA PRESEASON POLL
- The Colonial Athletic Association announced its preseason poll on Thursday, Oct. 28, with Elon tabbed to finish sixth.
- The Phoenix had two student-athletes earn preseason all-conference honors in Hunter McIntosh (1st Team) and Jerald Gillens-Butler (Honorable Mention).
- Elon earned a total of 202 points in the poll, including one first-place vote.
- Delaware was chosen as the preseason favorite with 296 points and 19 first-place votes, followed by Northeastern with 246 points and seven first-place votes. Drexel (234 points; five first-place votes), James Madison (224 points, three first-place votes) and Hofstra (211 points; one first-place vote) rounded out the top five.
 
COMING SOON
- The Phoenix is back in action on Feb. 12 when it travels to Towson, Md. to take on Towson.
- Following that contest, the Phoenix will have three home contests in five days as it takes on Hofstra (Feb. 15), Delaware (Feb. 17) and Drexel (Feb. 19 – Senior Day) respectively.
- Elon will then round out the 2021-22 regular season against Hofstra (Feb. 24) and Northeastern (Feb. 26).
