Elon Set To Host Drexel On Senior Day At Schar Center

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball returns to action for Senior Day on Saturday, Feb. 19, when it hosts Drexel in a 4 p.m. matchup at Schar Center.
 
Fans are encouraged to arrive early as the Phoenix will honor its three seniors prior to tomorrow's competition. The ceremony will begin shortly before tip-off and will recognize the contributions of Chuck Hannah, Kris Wooten and Charlie Mendys to the Elon program over the past several seasons. Following the game, each of the three seniors will give a speech on the court.
 
In addition to the Senior Day festivities, junior guard Hunter McIntosh will be recognized prior to the start of the game for scoring the 1,000th point of his collegiate career against James Madison on Feb. 10.

THE MATCHUP
- Saturday afternoon marks the 18th meeting between Elon and Drexel.
- The Phoenix currently trails the Dragons in the all-time series, 9-8.
- In the most recent meeting between the two programs, Elon fell to Drexel, 77-49, on Thursday, Jan. 20, at the Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia, Pa.
- Michael Graham led the charge for Elon, finishing with 14 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. His 17 boards also set a new Division I program record for the Phoenix. Graham has now scored in double-figures in seven straight games and has recorded three double-doubles this season.
- Hunter Woods chipped in 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field, 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc and 5-of-5 from the free throw line. The performance marked a new season-high in scoring for Woods and gave him his eighth 10+ point game this season and the 30th of his career.
- Hunter McIntosh and Darius Burford combined for 12 points and five rebounds on the night. 

SCOUTING ELON
- Junior guard and Preseason All-CAA First Team honoree Hunter McIntosh leads the team in scoring at 13.0 points per game, adding 2.9 assists per contest. McIntosh has scored in double figures in 52 career games, including 18 times this season. He currently ranks in the fifth in the conference in scoring at 14.9 ppg through 15 CAA contests this year. Against JMU on Feb. 10, McIntosh became the 46th player in program history to score 1,000 points in his collegiate career.
- Former CAA All-Rookie honoree Darius Burford is currently second on the team in scoring (12.8 ppg), while leading the team in assists (3.0 apg) and steals (1.5 spg). Burford also ranks third on the team in rebounding (4.0 rpg). The sophomore has scored in double figures 17 times and has nabbed at least two steals in 11 games this season. His 14.3 ppg scoring average in conference play also ranks seventh in the CAA.
- Sophomore center Michael Graham ranks third on the team in scoring (9.3 ppg), while leading the team in rebounding at 6.8 rpg. Graham has registered six double doubles and scored at least 10 points in 14 games this season. His 7.3 rebounding average ranks sixth in the CAA during conference play.
- Torrence Watson is fourth on the team in scoring 9.2 points per game, adding 3.0 rebounds per contest as well. Watson has gotten to the charity stripe a team-high 61 times this season, knocking down 52 of his attempts for an 85.2 free throw percentage.
- Junior forward Zac Ervin is fifth on the team in scoring, averaging 7.5 points per game, adding 3.0 rebounds per contest. Ervin has knocked down 46 threes while shooting at a 36.8 percent clip from long distance so far this season.
- Junior forward Hunter Woods is chipping in 6.1 points and 4.6 rebounds in 24.5 minutes through 27 games this season. Woods is also currently second on the team in steals this season with 29 total.
- Senior forward Chuck Hannah is averaging 4.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in 23.9 minutes per game.
- Freshman center Sam Sherry has gotten his Elon career off to a solid start, averaging 2.6 points in just over eight minutes of action per game.
- Elon currently ranks in the top-3 in the CAA in 3-point field goal percentage defense (32.2 – 2nd), total threes made (244 – 2nd), threes made per game (8.7 – 2nd)  and total assists (360 – 3rd).
- Elon set a program record for points at Schar Center (107), threes made (20) and assists (27) in its home opener against Randolph.
- Seniors Chuck Hannah and Kris Wooten will serve as the team captains for the 2021-22 season.
- This season marks the third for Head Coach Mike Schrage at the helm of the Elon program.
 
SCOUTING DREXEL
- Drexel enters the contest with a 13-12 overall record and an 8-7 record in CAA play after defeating William & Mary, 72-57, in its most recent contest. Camren Wynter led the Dragons in the contest, dropping 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. Lamar Oden Jr. added 13 points and a rebound, while Tre Brown chipped in 11 points and two boards. The Dragons had five players score at least 10 points in the win.
- Zach Spiker is in the midst of his sixth season at the helm of the Drexel program after leading the team to the 2021 CAA Championship title last year. Spiker spent seven seasons as the head coach at Army West Point prior to taking over the Dragons program in 2016.
- The Dragons are led by Camren Wynter who leads the team in scoring at 15.5 ppg and assists at 4.7 apg. Drexel has also gotten contributions from Melik Martin (11.1 ppg and 5.2 rpg) and Xavier Bell (10.8 ppg and 1.4 rpg) this season.

LAST TIME OUT
- Elon fell to Delaware, 71-62, on Thursday, Feb. 17, at Schar Center.
- Darius Burford led the charge for the Phoenix, dropping 21 points and two rebounds in 31 minutes. Burford has now scored at least 10 points in 17 games this season, including a team-best five 20-point performances. His 21 points tonight were his most since scoring a season-high 27 points against UNCW on Feb. 3.
- Hunter McIntosh chipped in 16 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals in a team-high 38 minutes of action. Tonight marked the second straight 15+ point outing for the junior and the fifth in his last six games.   
- Michael Graham logged a team-high nine boards, adding nine points and a blocked shot in 26 minutes. Graham has now grabbed at least five rebounds in 19 games this season.
- Andrew Junkin continued his strong play of late, finishing with six points, four rebounds and a season-high matching two blocks. It was the third consecutive game that Junkin has posted at least six points, two rebounds and a blocked shot.
- Zac Ervin added seven points and three rebounds, while Kris Wooten posted three points and a career-high seven boards.
 
THE FACES OF 2021-22
- Elon returned three starters in Chuck Hannah, All-CAA Second Team honoree Hunter McIntosh and CAA All-Rookie selection Darius Burford.
- Other returnees for the Phoenix includes seniors Jerald Gillens-Butler, Kris Wooten and Charlie Mendys, juniors Ben Daugherty, Hunter Woods and Zac Ervin, and sophomores Michael Graham and JaDun Michael.
-Additionally, the maroon and gold welcomes five newcomers to the squad in Mizzou transfer Torrence Watson, Mississippi State transfer Andrew Junkin and freshmen RJ Noord, Sam Sherry and Reece Clark.
 
CAA PRESEASON POLL
- The Colonial Athletic Association announced its preseason poll on Thursday, Oct. 28, with Elon tabbed to finish sixth.
- The Phoenix had two student-athletes earn preseason all-conference honors in Hunter McIntosh (1st Team) and Jerald Gillens-Butler (Honorable Mention).
- Elon earned a total of 202 points in the poll, including one first-place vote.
- Delaware was chosen as the preseason favorite with 296 points and 19 first-place votes, followed by Northeastern with 246 points and seven first-place votes. Drexel (234 points; five first-place votes), James Madison (224 points, three first-place votes) and Hofstra (211 points; one first-place vote) rounded out the top five.
 
COMING SOON
- The Phoenix is back in action on Feb. 19 for a matchup with Drexel on Senior Day.
- Elon will then round out the 2021-22 regular season against Hofstra (Feb. 24) and Northeastern (Feb. 26).
- The Phoenix will then prepare for the upcoming CAA Tournament, set to begin on March 5.
