ELON, N.C. – Elon University baseball will travel to Greenville, N.C. on Wednesday, March 23 for a 4 p.m. game at East Carolina. The game was originally scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start but was moved up in an effort to avoid inclement weather.

THE SERIES
- ECU leads the all-time series, 54-32-1.
- The Pirates (10-10) are ahead 19-4 when playing in Greenville.
- Elon and ECU met for two games at Latham Park on March 26-27 last season when the Pirates were ranked No. 8 in the country. ECU took the first meeting 15-0, but the Phoenix (11-8) responded with a 2-1 victory in Game Two.
- Spencer Bauer and Brian Edgington held the No. 8 Pirates to one run and Nick Cicci hit a two-run home run in the upset.

SCOUTING THE PIRATES
- ECU is coming off a 2-1 series loss at Charleston this past weekend. The Pirates won the series opener 8-5 on Friday, but dropped a close game 4-3 on Saturday and fell 10-3 on Sunday. 
- The Pirates play a 6 p.m. game at UNCW on Tuesday night.
- Cam Clonch is batting .452 to lead the Pirates at the plate. Lane Hoover follows with a .347 average and Jacob Jenkins-Cowart owns a .344 clip.
- Hoover, Alex Makarewicz and Bryson Worrell have scored 16 runs each while Makarewicz has driven in a team-high 17 runs. Hoover is also a threat on the base paths having stolen four bags in eight attempts.
- ECU is batting .263 as a team with a .381 slugging percentage and a .339 on-base percentage.
- ECU's pitching owns a combined 4.48 ERA with opponents batting .259 against them.
- Through games played on March 21, the Pirates ranked fourth in the nation in sacrifice bunts (17), 11th in fielding percentage (.983) and sacrifice flies (13), 23rd in strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.25) and 24th in strikeouts per nine innings (10.7).
- Skylar Brooks and C.J. Mayhue are 16th nationally with 11 pitching appearances each. Pitchers Jake Hunter and Jake Kuchmaner rank 18th with five starts each, Garrett Saylor is 25th with 14.07 strikeouts per nine innings, and Carter Cunningham and Makarewicz are 27th with three sac flies each.
- ECU was picked as the preseason favorite to win the American Athletic Conference with 6-of-8 first-place votes and 48 total points. Carson Whisenhunt was selected the conference's Preseason Pitcher of the Year and was joined on the Preseason All-Conference Team by Mayhue.
- The Pirates opened the season ranked No. 8 in the country by Collegiate Baseball, No. 12 by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and D1 Baseball, No. 13 by Perfect Game and the USA Today Coaches Poll, and No. 15 by Baseball America.

ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon won two-of-three games versus Army this past weekend at Latham Park.
- The Phoenix opened the series with a 7-3 final last Friday. Alex Iadisernia helped spark the offense as he homered twice, drove in three runs, score two more and added a walk. Liam Dabagian (1-) picked up his first career win after tossing 3.2 scoreless innings out of the pen.
- Elon secured the series victory on Saturday as Brian Edgington (3-0) recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts in a 7.0-inning start. He scattered seven hits, didn't walk anyone and held the Black Knights to one unearned run. The outing landed him on D1 Baseball's Top Performers list.
- Charlie Granatell and Luke Stephenson both homered to give the maroon and gold a 5-4 lead in the eighth inning of Sunday's series finale, but Army plated two runs in the ninth to avoid the series sweep.
- Stephenson and Granatell are both hitting .306 to lead Elon's starters, and Iadisernia is close behind them with a .301 clip.
- Iadisernia has scored a team-high 15 runs, through Samuel Frontino is right behind him with 14 runs. Stephenson and Iadisernia have both hit four long balls and Iadisernia has the team-high in RBIs with 24. Justin Cassella has stolen safely in 6-of-9 attempts and Frontino has five steals in six attempts.
- Elon is batting .237 as a team with a .397 slugging percentage and a .357 on-base percentage.
- Elon pitchers own a combined 3.82 ERA with opponents batting .277. The Phoenix has recorded 176 strikeouts against 42 walks in 172.0 innings.
- The Phoenix is currently second in the country in walks allowed per nine innings (2.20), fourth in double plays (20), sixth in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.19), eighth in double plays per game (1.05) and 15th in sacrifice bunts (14).
- Edgington and Joe Savino are 18th in the country with five starts and Iadisernia is 27th with three sac flies. Elon also has multiple players leading the CAA: Kyle Greenler in pitching appearances (10), Iadisernia in RBIs per game (1.26), Carlos Marte in sacrifice bunts (3), Savino in strikeout-to-walk ratio (9.00), and Edgington in strikeouts (41) and strikeouts per nine innings (12.03).
