SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon University men's golf is tied for sixth place following the first two rounds of the Wofford Intercollegiate on Monday, April 11. Wofford is hosting the tournament par-72, 6712-yard course at the Country Club of Spartanburg. 

"It was a roller coaster of a day," head coach Don Hill said. "Birdies, eagles and doubles. We played 30 solid holes of golf but a few mental mistakes and some speed issues on the greens kept us from really taking it deep. I'm encouraged by the toughness we showed late in the day. We have to bring that mindset to tomorrow's round."

The Phoenix got off to a round start to the day with an eight-over par 296 in the opening round, but had a much improved round two with a four-under 284. The team's 36-hole total of 580 (+4) has Elon even in the team standings with USC Aiken and Francis Marion. UNCW leads the 18-team field with a 19-under 557, while the host Terriers and Appalachian State are tied for second with scores of five-under 571.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
Matthew Doyle and Bronson Myers lead Elon and are tied for 23rd with even scores of 144. Doyle started off the day with a one-over 73 and followed with a one-under 71 while Myers carded a plus-two 74 before bouncing back with a two-under 70 in his second trip around the links. William Frodigh is one-stroke behind the pair and tied for 29th after recording a one-over 145, and Garrett Risner and Juan Callejo Ropero posted two-over 146s to tie for 33rd. Pedro Rabadan rounded out the scores for the Phoenix with a 154 (+10) and is currently tied for 79th.

Doyle is tied for second in par-5 scoring with a 4.00 average. Elon also recorded four eagles on the day as Doyle, Callejo Ropero, Risner and Rabdan each had one. Doyle made a team-high 10 birdies, Frodigh was next with nine, Myers converted 24 putts for par and Risner made 21.

UP NEXT
The Intercollegiate concludes tomorrow with the third and final round. Elon is set to tee off from the first hole between 8:09-8:45 a.m.
