KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Pedro Rabadan is tied for fifth and Elon University men's golf is in 11th place following the first two rounds of the Irish Creek Intercollegiate on Saturday, April 2. Charlotte is hosting the tournament at the par-71, 7099-yard course at the Club at Irish Creek. 

"We had three good weeks of practice leading up to Irish Creek, so to start slowly was a bit of a surprise," said head coach Don Hill. "The guys were prepared, but sometimes 'golf' just happens. It's a tough game."

The Phoenix opened the Intercollegiate with a 10-over par 284, but bounced back with a two-under 282 in its second trip around the course and will take an eight-over 576 into the final round. The host 49ers are atop the team standings at 20-under 548, Ole Miss is in second place and 17-under at 551, and VCU is third with a 10-under 558.

"I'm proud of our resilience and toughness," added Hill. "To fight back and shoot a couple under this afternoon was a positive. Hopefully we can play well tomorrow and gain some momentum moving forward."
 
HIGHLIGHTS
Rabadan started off his day with four birdies in the opening round, tallying three on the front nine, for a one-under 70. The sophomore from Madrid, Spain then bettered that effort with another six birdies in round two for a four-under 67. He heads into Sunday with a combined total of five-under 137. Next for the Phoenix was Garrett Risner, who tied for 35th at 143 (+1) after posting scores of 70 and 73. Juan Callejo Ropero carded a 74 and and 70 to tie for 43rd at 144 (+2). Matthew Doyle and William Frodigh are both tied for 50th at 145 (+3) as both opened with 75s and followed with 70s. Bronson Myers is seven-over and tied for 77th at 149. After shooting a 77 to start the tournament, he shaved off five strokes for a one-over 72 in round two.

The 10 birdies made by Rabadan leads the Phoenix, though Risner and Myers were right behind him with nine each. Frodigh had the team high in made putts for par with 27 and is tied for fifth in par-3 scoring at 2.88. Rabadan is tied for second in par-4 scoring with a 3.86 average.
