Charlotte Smith Named 2023 Sports Impact Recipient at K-Love Fan Awards

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Elon University Women's Basketball Coach Charlotte Smith was presented with the 2023 Sports Impact Award at the 10th K-Love Fan Awards Friday night. Christian singer/song writers Josh Baldwin and David Leonard presented Smith with the honor.

"I am grateful to K-Love for selecting me as this year's Sports Impact recipient," Coach Smith said. "It's my privilege and honor to be a light for God in the world of sports."

The Sports Impact Award is presented each year to an MVP who uses their time on the field or court for something greater than fame.

Smith – a former University of North Carolina women's basketball standout and national champion – completed her 12th season as Elon's women's basketball head coach this year. She has impacted the game of basketball as both a player and coach as is one of the most decorated players in Tar Heel history. Smith led Elon to back-to-back conference championships in 2017 and 2018.

Off the court, Smith is the author of two devotion books, "When Coaches Pray" and "When Athletes Pray", that help athletes navigate their unique life experiences while keeping prayer essential. Additionally, Smith writes her own original songs about her faith, most recently releasing "Walk in Your Greatness."

Smith is now joining other athletes who have used their positions for a bigger purpose as previous recipients of the Sports Impact Award include Tim Tebow, Scott Drew, Benjamin Watson, and Mike Fisher.

Smith accepted the award Friday evening with great appreciation, thanking those who have helped her reach where she is today.
