Men’s Golf Fourth After Day One Of Elon Phoenix Invitational

BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Elon University men's golf team is in solo fourth place after carding rounds of 285 and 281 on day one of their annual home tournament. UNCG is leading the field with a 36-hole total of 555 (-13).

HIGHLIGHTS

Matthew Doyle improved his first-round score by five strokes carding a 66 in his second round that included a bogey-free back nine with five birdies. Doyle is tied for fourth with a 36-hole total of 137 (-5).
As an individual, Juan Callejo Ropero finished with a 36-hole total of 137 (-5) after rounds of 69 and 68. The senior carded a team-high 12 birdies on the day.
Garrett Risner led the Phoenix after round one with a 4-under par 67 followed by a 71 in round two to tie for seventh place. In his opening round, he carded back-to-back birdies on holes four and five followed by an eagle on hole six.
Jack Wieler is tied for 25th place after carding a 36-hole total of 145 (+3).
Landon Durham shot rounds of 74 and 72 to tie for 40th place after day one.
Rounds of 76 and 74 have Bronson Myers in a tie for 85th place.
As individuals, Timmy Gannon is tied for 68th place with a 149 (+7) while Bizzell Pate finished tied for 93rd place with a 153 (+11).

UP NEXT

The Phoenix will return to Alamance Country Club tomorrow for the final round of the Elon Phoenix Invitational with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
