Women’s Basketball Continues Road Swing At Longwood

ELON, N.C. — The Elon women's basketball team (3-2) continues its road swing at Longwood (4-3) on Tuesday, November 26, with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.

THE SERIES   
  • Elon leads the all-time series over the Lancers 13-7.
  • The teams will face off for the first time in 16 years, with their last meeting dating back to November 15, 2008, when the Phoenix narrowly fell 58-54.
LAST TIME OUT
  • Elon fell at Virginia Tech 87-69 on Saturday, Nov. 23.
  • Freshman Jayda Angel led the Phoenix with her first career 20-point performance off the bench, shooting 7-for-13 from the field, and tying for the team lead with six rebounds and two steals.
  • Raven Preston added 14 points and six rebounds.
  • Maraja Pass paced the Phoenix with four assists, while Laila Anderson knocked down a team-high four free throws.
  • Alyssa Ervin scored a career-best 10 points, shooting 3-for-6 from the field, and grabbed a season-high five rebounds.
  • Ashlee Shaw scored her first points as a Phoenix, going 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.
  • Elon outnumbered Virginia Tech in steals (8-6) and bench points (40-27). 
JAYDA'S ANGELS
  • Freshman Jayda Angel has earned two CAA Rookie of the Week honors to start the 2024-25 season.
  • Angel notched her first career 20-point performance against Elon's first Power Four matchup of the season.
  • She led all Phoenix scorers with 20 points, shooting 7-for-13 from the field, and added six rebounds and two steals, tying for the team lead in both categories, during the game against Virginia Tech.
  • She made a strong impression in her first two collegiate games, leading the Phoenix in scoring in victories over High Point and Gardner-Webb.
  • Angel averaged 17.5 points in her first collegiate week.
  • She nearly reached a double-double against the Bulldogs with seven rebounds and 17 points.
 
PRESEASON PRAISE
  • The Phoenix was picked to finish seventh in the CAA Preseason Poll.
  • Senior forward Iycez Adams was selected to the Preseason All-CAA Second Team while redshirt sophomore guard Raven Preston earned Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention honors.
  • Adams averaged a team-best 10.3 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game last season.
  • She tied for second in the league last season in blocks per game and was third in the conference in total blocked shots (49).
  • The Greensboro, N.C. native recorded five double-double performances last year, including three straight from Jan. 14-21, 2024. 
  • Raven Preston returns to play this season for the Phoenix after missing last season due to injury. Preston became the first CAA Rookie of the Year in Elon program history after averaging 11.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game.
  • The two will play together for the Phoenix for the first time since playing with each other in 2020-21 at Quality Education Academy.
SCOUTING LONGWOOD
  • Longwood dropped to 4-3 on the season following a 75-61 loss to Navy on Saturday, November 23.
  • The Lancers were picked to finish seventh in the 2024-25 Big South Conference Preseason Poll.
  • Malea Brown leads the team with 70 points this season, reaching double figures in three games.
  • Otaifo Esenabhalu has led Longwood in rebounding in five of seven games, including four double-digit rebounding performances.
  • Senior guard Mariah Wilson paced the Lancers against Navy with 13 points on 6-for-10 shooting and leads the team with nine made three-pointers this season.
  • Erika Lang-Montgomery is in her third year as head coach of the Lancers.
UP NEXT
  • The maroon and gold will return to Schar Center on Wednesday, Dec. 4, to host Furman for Education Day. Tipoff is set for 11 a.m.
