HUMACAO, PR – The Elon University men's golf team shot the lowest final round score of 276 (-12) at the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate to finish tied for sixth place. Five of Elon's six golfers posted their lowest scores in the final round, all advancing in the individual standings.
Elon finished with a 54-hole total of 856 (-8). Arkansas won the tournament with a 27-under par 837 while UNCG placed second with an 844 (-20).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Matthew Doyle was Elon's top finisher after carding a 67 (-5) in the final round, including an eagle and two birdies on the back nine. Doyle tied for seventh place and paced the team in birdies (14) and par-5 scoring (4.17) while tying for the lead in the field in par-3 scoring average with a 2.83. He was the only Phoenix golfer to card an eagle in all three rounds.
- Garrett Risner and Jack Wieler both shot their lowest round of the tournament with a three-under par 69 in the final round to advance 17 spots in the individual standings to tie for 34th place. Risner carded four birdies and only one bogey while Wieler carded five birdies and one double bogey. Risner finished second on the team in pars with 35.
- Juan Callejo Ropero moved up 12 spots on the leaderboard after recording a one-under par 71 in the final round. Ropero tied for 48th place and tied with Risner in par-5 scoring average at 4.42.
- Bronson Myers carded a tournament-low round of 72 (E) in the final round. Myers carded two birdies to offset two bogeys to tie for 68th place.
- As an individual, Jennings Glenn also recorded his lowest round of the tournament in the final round with a one-over par 73. He advanced five spots on the leaderboard to finish in solo 86th place.
- As a team, Elon finished second in the field in par-5 scoring average at 4.47 and third in the field in par-3 scoring average at 3.12.
