NAPA, CA. – The Elon University men's golf team sits in solo sixth place with a 36-hole total of 587 (+11) following day one at the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational. Garrett Risner led the Phoenix after round one with a 3-under par 69 while Matthew Doyle carded a 1-under par 71 in his opening round. They both are now in a tie for 14^th place in the individual standings.

HIGHLIGHTS 

• Matthew Doyle fired an opening round of 71 (-1) that included four birdies and 5 pars in the front nine. He followed with a second-round score of 75 (+3) to tie for 14^th place and is second on the team in par-4 scoring average (4.15).
• Garrett Risner shot a 3-under par 69 in the first round, including six birdies to offset three bogeys. Risner carded a five-over par 77 in the second round and is also tied for 14^th place with a 36-hole total of 146 (+2). The junior is tied for the lead in the field in par-5 scoring average (4.38), has a team-high par-4 scoring average (4.10) and shares the team-lead with Doyle in birdies with eight.
• Back-to-back rounds of 75 put Jack Wieler in a tie for 34th place with a 36-hole total of 150 (+6). Wieler leads the team in pars with 24.
• After an opening round of 76 (+4) battled back in the second round improving his score by two strokes with a two-over par 74. The junior is tied for 34^th place in the individual standings and tied with Wieler for the team-lead in par-3 scoring average (3.25).
• As a team, Elon is second in the field in paar-5 scoring average (4.75).

• Play resumes with the third and final round tomorrow.
• The Phoenix is back in action next weekend Mar. 29-31 to cohost the Cutter Creek Invitational in Snow Hill, N.C.
