NAPA, CA. – The Elon University men's golf team finished sixth at the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday.
Matthew Doyle and
Garrett Risner led the Phoenix with a 4-over par 220. The event was held at the par-72, 6,793-yard Silverado Resort and Spa in collaboration with the Golf Coaches Association of America.

As a team, Elon shot a 54-hole total of 879 (+15) to finish sixth. Brigham Young won the tournament at 12-under par 852 while Sam Houston finished second with an 860 (-4).

"Obviously we're disappointed in our play. We had some really good practices leading up to the Bridgestone Collegiate, but they didn't translate to the final result. Fortunately, we have a quick turnaround, and we have an opportunity to play again this weekend at the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate."
HIGHLIGHTS
- Matthew Doyle finished tied for 17th place after carding a 2-over par 74 in his final round. Doyle tied for the lead the field in par-5 scoring average at 4.42 and led the team in birdies with 12 including four in his final round and.
- Garrett Risner shot a 74 (+2) in the final round finishing tied for 17th place in the individual standings. He finished the event leading the team in par-4 scoring average (4.07).
- Bronson Myers carded two birdies to offset two bogeys in the back nine on his final round finishing with a 54-hole total of 221 (+5). Myers finished tied for 23rd place and was second on the team in par-4 scoring average (4.10) and tied for second with Risner in birdies on the team with 10.
- Jack Wieler delivered his best score of the tournament in the final round with an even-par 72 to move up six spots on the individual leaderboard. Wieler carded four birdies to offset four bogeys while tying for the team-lead in pars with 34.
- Juan Callejo Ropero also carded a tournament-low score shooting a 1-over par 73 in his final round. The junior had a team-high 15 pars in the final round. He led the team in par-3 scoring average at 3.17 and tied with Wieler for a team-high 34 pars.
- As a team, Elon is second in the field in par-5 scoring average (4.70) and fourth in both par-4 scoring average (4.15) and birdies (47).
