SAINT HELENA, S.C. – The Elon University men's golf team fired their lowest round score at the Dataw Island Cotton Dike Golf Course in Saint Helena Island, S.C., completing day one of the CAA Championship with a 14-under par 274.

As a team, Elon is in second place just two strokes behind leader UNCW. Bronson Myers and Jack Wieler pace the Phoenix both tied for fifth place with a 68 (-4).

HIGHLIGHTS 

• After round one, Bronson Myers and Jack Wieler lead the team each firing a 4-under par 68. Myers fired seven birdies on the day including three straight birdies on holes 9-11. Wieler started his round off strong with three birdies and an eagle on his front nine finishing the back nine with three birdies to offset three bogeys. Myers leads the entire field in par-4 scoring average at 3.50 and paces the team in birdies (7) while Wieler is tied for the team-lead in par-5 scoring average at 4.25.
• Garrett Risner is tied for ninth place in the individual standings after carding a 69 (-3). Risner shot a bogey-free front nine that included three birdies followed by three more birdies on the back nine. He is tied for the lead in the field in par-3 scoring average (2.50) and ties the team-best in pars (10) and par-5 scoring average (4.25).
• Matthew Doyle is also tied for ninth with a 3-under par 69. Doyle carded three birdies and only one bogey in his front nine before firing an eagle on hole 13. He is tied for the team-lead in pars with 10 and is second on the team in par-4 scoring average at 3.80.
• Juan Callejo Ropero started his first round off strong with four birdies on the front nine and back-to-back birdies on holes 10 and 11. Ropero is tied for 16^th place with a 1-under par 71.
• As a team, Elon is leading the field in par-4 scoring average at 3.88 and is second in birdies with 29.

UP NEXT   

• The second round of the CAA Championship begins tomorrow on hole one with an 8:30 a.m. tee time. Elon will begin their tee times starting at 11:30 a.m.
