CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Five members of the Elon University women's golf team were recognized as 2023-24 WGCA All-American Scholars on Monday, July 1. Annabelle Ackroyd, Lotte Fox, Ashley Lafontaine, Apple Ngamwong and Charlotte Scully represented the Phoenix on the team.
 
Ackroyd competed in all 10 tournaments this season with an average score of 74.70. The Calgary, Alberta native posted six rounds of par or better and had three top-10 results. She had back-to-back top-3 finishes at the Elon Invitational (T2) and Red Bandanna Intercollegiate (T3). Ackroyd was named CAA Women's Golfer of the Week on Sept. 28, 2022, for her season-best performance at the Elon Invitational after carding an even-par 213. 
 
A senior from Raleigh, N.C., Fox owned an average score of 76.30 playing in all 10 tournaments last season. She posted her best finish at the William & Mary Invitational in September where she tied for ninth with a 224 (+8). Fox was named Elon's A.L. Hook Scholar Athlete of Year at the 2024 Phoenix Awards.
 
Lafontaine played in nine tournaments and averaged a team-best score of 74.59. The junior from Ottawa, Ontario had five top-10 finishes as she shot six rounds of par or better, including a low round of 68. Her best finish came at the Elon Invitational after carding a 2-over par 215. She carded a 7-over par 223 to tie for eighth at the Terrier Intercollegiate helping the Phoenix take home the team title.
 
Ngamwong competed in seven tournaments last season with a 76.90 stroke average, posting two rounds of par or better. She delivered her best score of the year with a runner-up finish at the River Landing Classic with a 1-over par 217 and was named CAA Co-Golfer of the Week on May 6 following her performance.
 
A junior from Chadds Ford, Pa., Scully competed in six tournaments last season averaging a score of 78.73. She had her best finish at the William & Mary Invitational where she tied for 16^th place with a 12-over par 228.
 
The All-American scholars are presented by the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), formerly known as the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). Founded in 1983, the WGCA is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. It was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Ackroyd, Fox, Lafontaine, Ngamwong and Scully are among 1,497 women's golfers from the Division I, II and III ranks to receive the distinction.
 
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.
