Wieler Leads The Field On Opening Day Of Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Jack Wieler is in first place with a 6-under par 66, leading the entire field and the Elon University men's golf team following the first round of the Myrtle Beach Golf Trips Intercollegiate on Sunday, Sept. 8. Coastal Carolina is hosting the tournament at the 7,587-yard, par-72 Grand Dunes Golf Club.

With a 282 in the opening round, the Phoenix is 6-under-par for the tournament and in fourth place in the team standings. Santa Clara leads the team leaderboard at 9-under par while Coastal Carolina and Campbell are tied for second at 8-under par.

HIGHLIGHTS

Jack Wieler posted the field's low round with a 66 (-6). Wieler leads the field in birdies with seven and leads the team in par-4 scoring average (3.80) and par-5 scoring average (4.00).
Garrett Risner is also in the top five as he sits tied for fifth with a 3-under par 69. Risner shot a bogey-free back nine with two birdies and an eagle on hole 7. He is tied with Wieler for a team-best par-3 scoring average (3.00).
Landon Durham is tied for 39th place after carding a 73 (+1) in his opening round.
Matthew Doyle and Bronson Myers finished the day at 2-over par (74). Doyle is tied with Risner carding 12 pars on the day to lead the team.
As an individual, Bizzell Pate is tied for 56thplace with an 18-hole total of 75 (+3) after his first career college round.
As a team, Elon leads the field in par-5 scoring average (4.40) and is tied for second in par-4 scoring average (4.06).

UP NEXT

The tournament's second round play begins tomorrow with tee times at 8:00 a.m. and 8:10 a.m. off of holes one and 10.
