AWENDAW, S.C. – Matthew Doyle leads the Phoenix and sits second in the field after a 6-under par 66, carding a team-best seven birdies in the opening round of the Hootie at Bull's Bay.

The Phoenix posted a 7-under par 281 in round one and is tied for fourth place alongside N.C. State. Purdue leads the field with a 275 (-13).

HIGHLIGHTS  

• Matthew Doyle is in second with a 66, highlighted by a team-high seven birdies, including a bogey-free front nine.
• Garrett Risner posted a 2-under par 70 to tie for 16th place, recording three birdies and 14 pars.
• Bronson Myers is tied for 38th place after an even-par 72 in round one, which included four birdies.
• Landon Durham fired a 73 to tie for 55th place, finishing second on the team with five birdies.
• Jack Wieler is tied for 68th place at 3-over par, carding three birdies in the opening round.
