Elon Hosts UNCW To Close Regular Season

Phoenix Aims To Halt Skid On Senior Night

ELON – The Elon men's basketball team will host UNCW in the 2025-26 regular-season finale on Tuesday night at Schar Center. Tipoff between the Phoenix (14-16, 6-11 CAA) and Seahawks (25-5, 14-3) is slated for 7 p.m. ET with FloCollege streaming the contest.

GAME INFO – vs. UNCW
INSIDE THE MATCHUP
vs. UNCW
  • Series record: Phoenix trails, 16-18
  • Elon and UNCW first clashed two weeks ago with the Seahawks winning a 65-54 contest in Wilmington. The Phoenix won the previous two meetings – both also played in Wilmington – between the programs dating back to Feb. 17, 2024.
  • Elon's last home win over UNCW came on Feb. 3, 2022.
  • The Seahawks, who already secured the No. 1 seed in the CAA Tournament, had a chance to clinch the outright regular-season championship Sunday but fell 79-76 to Charleston. UNCW can still earn the outright title with a win Tuesday.

SENIOR NIGHT
Elon will honor five players – Ja'Juan Carr, Chandler Cuthrell, Kacper Klaczek, Bryson Spell and Austin Williams – and three student managers (Zeke Petrou, Ian Wolk and Oliver Wolk) prior to tipoff.

STARTING FIVE
1. Home Stretch
Elon enters Tuesday's regular-season finale in 11th place in the CAA standings at 6-11 in league play, looking to halt a three-game skid. Beyond building momentum ahead of this week's CAA Championship, the Phoenix also has an opportunity to impact the top of the standings. A victory would deny UNCW an outright regular-season title and create a tie atop the conference, with UNCW and Charleston finishing at 14-4.

2. Leading Role
Graduate forward Chandler Cuthrell has been the focal point of Elon's offense, ranking among the nation's most productive scorers at 20.0 ppg (31st nationally). After arriving in the offseason with a career average of 6.1 ppg, Cuthrell has posted 20-plus points in 17 games, including 23 at Monmouth last Saturday. The 6-foot-8 forward is the ninth player in program history to surpass 600 points in a season and needs just 20 more to reach 1,000 for his Division I career. He has scored efficiently at all three levels but has been especially active at the free-throw line, converting 173 of 241 attempts (71.8%). His 173 makes rank 14th nationally, while his 241 attempts are sixth.

3. Cookin' With Cokley
Sophomore guard Bryson Cokley has become a primary focus of opposing scouting reports in CAA play, averaging 13.8 PPG in conference contests. He has delivered in key moments for the Phoenix, highlighted by a career-high 29 points and the go-ahead 3-pointer with two seconds remaining in an 81-78 win at William & Mary on Feb. 14. Cokley has reached double figures 20 times this season and has started the past nine games after coming off the bench in the first 20. He is averaging 12.6 PPG overall while shooting 39.6% from 3-point range (59 of 149).

4. Find The Groove
Elon hopes to reestablish continuity in its rotation with graduate forward Kacper Klaczek after he missed eight of the past 10 games during CAA play. Klaczek, who averages 11.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.0 block and steal per game, was sidelined for seven straight contests from Jan. 24-Feb. 14 due to injury. After returning for two games, he most recently missed Saturday's game at Monmouth because of illness. The 6-foot-8 native of Poland provides versatility on both ends, shooting 54.1% from the field and 44.6% from 3-point range. He has recorded multiple assists in 20 of his 22 appearances and owns two 20-point performances in CAA play.

5. Floor General
Elon has used different looks at the point guard position down the stretch – including stretches with Bryson Cokley serving as the primary ball handler – but graduate Ja'Juan Carr remains the steadying presence for the Phoenix offense. A former UNCW Seahawk who redshirted during the 2020-21 season, Carr later helped UNC Pembroke win 74 games over three seasons (2022-25). He leads the CAA and ranks 16th nationally with a 3.31 assist-to-turnover ratio and has been even more efficient in league play with a 3.9 mark (75 assists, 19 turnovers). The Burgaw, North Carolina, native's 129 assists rank fourth in Elon's Division I single-season history. More than just a facilitator, Carr has scored in double figures five times in conference play.

UP NEXT
Elon heads to Washington, D.C., for the CAA Men's Basketball Championship. The Phoenix will start its tournament run on Saturday, March 7, at CareFirst Arena. The tournament bracket will be finalized following the conclusion of the regular season on Tuesday night.
