ELON, NC -- Elon women's basketball coach Brenda Paul announced the signing of Samantha McComas (Huntington, WV/Huntington HS) to a National Letter of Intent on Thursday.
McComas, a 6'2" forward, averaged 10 points, 10 rebounds and one block per game her freshman year at Cabell Midland High. For her sophomore year she averaged 17 points, 15 boards, five assists and three blocks. In her final season at Cabell Midland McComas averaged 15.6 points, 18.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocks. She has transferred to Huntington High for her senior season.
Paul says, "Samantha is a very strong, physical player who has a soft touch around the basket. She comes from a very good basketball background and will help to fill the voids left by our graduating seniors. Samantha is a very dedicated player." According to Paul, McComas "has very good footwork on the block."
McComas was named First Team Mountain State Conference in 2001, while leading that conference in rebounding (366). She also led her team in scoring for the 2001 season. A First Team MSAC and Second Team WVSAC honoree in 2000, McComas has been named one of the Charleston Gazette's Top 10 two times.
She has led the West Virginia Thunder AAU team to state championships from 1995-1999 and a 13th place national finish in 1995. Her Pittsburgh Rockers USJN team placed second in the Nationals twice.
Samantha is the daughter of Tim and Tracey McComas and has been named to Who's Who in High School Sports.
