Elon Women's Basketball Loses Two Players

McMoore (right), who led the Southern Conference in scoring at 14.0 points per game and rebounding with 9.1 rebounds per outing, reinjured her ACL and will have surgery to make repairs. She also ranked among the league leaders with a 56.5 percent field goal percentage (3rd), 2.96 offensive rebounds per game (3rd), 6.18 defensive rebounds per contest (2nd) and 0.71 blocks each game (10th). As a sophomore, McMoore tallied 10 double-doubles, including a span of six straight games with a double-double. She had a career-game in Elon’s victory at Western Carolina, netting a career-best 31 points and pulling in a career-high 16 rebounds. McMoore, the 2005-06 team MVP, scored 20 or more points three times and hit double figures in that category in 23 of 28 games. She also grabbed 10 or more rebounds in 12 contests.

Shipley (left) has been advised by doctors to end her playing career after she has suffered from nagging leg injuries for the past two seasons. As a sophomore, Shipley claimed spots in Elon’s single-season top-10 charts in three-pointers made with 69 (3rd), three-pointers attempted with 211 (3rd) and with a 32.7 percent three-point field goal percentage (8th). She was second on the team and 27th in the SoCon in scoring, averaging 9.1 points per outing. Her 2.46 three-point field goals made per game rated in a tie for second in the league and she scored in double figures in 13 outings. In a win over North Carolina A&T, Shipley knocked down a career-best five threes and scored a career-high 17 points. Shipley established a career-high with five assists in a win over Furman and was one of two Phoenix players to start all 28 games last season.

“When you lose two players of the caliber of Kitara and Robyn, you’re program will have to make some adjustments,” stated Paul. “The good news is that this has happened prior to the beginning of the season and we will be able to prepare without them.”

Of Shipley, Paul said, “Having Robyn for two seasons was wonderful. She is a great person and we will miss her on the court. Her ability to hit the three and her play on the defensive end were big for us. I want to thank Robyn for the effort she gave us these past couple of seasons.”
