ELON, N.C. –
The Elon University women’s basketball team (4-1) returns to action on Monday night, Nov. 29, as the Phoenix opens up Southern Conference action with a 7 p.m. contest at Appalachian State (4-1).

THE SERIES: Appalachian State leads the all-time series 15-9 after topping Elon twice last season. The Mountaineers won the first meeting 85-66 on Jan. 2, 2010 in Boone before topping the Phoenix 73-54 inside Alumni Gym on Feb. 6, 2010. The last time Elon beat ASU in Boone was Feb. 9, 2009 with a 73-55 win. The two teams meet again this season on Jan. 24, 2011 in Elon.

GETTING OFFENSIVE: Elon is second in the SoCon in scoring at 78.6 ppg, while Appalachian State leads the conference at 79.8 ppg. Ali Ford leads the league with 20.2 ppg, while Kelsey Evans is fifth at 14.8 ppg. Elon is first in the SoCon in scoring margin (+15.6) and second in field goal percentage (40.5 percent). The Phoenix also leads the league in offensive rebounds with 80 (16.0 per game).

LOOKING BACK: The Phoenix topped Virginia Intermont, 80-55, on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Alumni Gym. Kelsey Evans recorded her second straight double-double with 16 points and 12 boards for the Phoenix, while Ali Ford tied for a game-high with 17 points. Shon Redmond dished out six assists in the win and finished with eight steals.

LOOKING AHEAD: Following Monday’s contest at Appalachian State, Elon hits the road for a 7 p.m. matchup in Morgantown, W. Va. versus nationally-ranked West Virginia on Thursday, Dec. 2. It will mark the first meeting between the Phoenix and the No. 10/11 ranked Mountaineers.

HOT START: With a 4-1 record this season, Elon is off to its best start since the 1997-98 squad began the season with a 5-1 mark. The 1995-96 team started the season with a 6-0 record.

THE BAREFOOT FILE: Elon head coach Karen Barefoot enters Tuesday’s game with a 193-132 career record in her 13th season as a head coach, including a 21-46 mark in her third season with the Phoenix.

SAME NAMES: Elon plays back-to-back contests against teams with the same nickname when it takes on the Appalachian State and West Virginia Mountaineers.

STOP, THIEF!: Shon Redmond’s eight steals on Tuesday, Nov. 23, versus Virginia Intermont tied four former Elon players for the fourth most steals in a single game in program history. The last Elon player to record eight steals in a game was Tiffany Davis on Jan. 24, 2007 versus Longwood. Redmond leads the Phoenix with 18 steals this season. As a team, the Phoenix leads the SoCon in steals with 70. Elon is the only team in the league with a positive turnover margin (+8.2).

REACHING A MILESTONE: Ali Ford has scored 101 points this season, putting her at 600 for her career. Ford tallied 499 points as a true freshman last season and is leading the SoCon with 20.2 ppg this season.
