Probable Starting Pitchers
Tuesday
EU: LH Andrew MacDonald (3-1, 2.33 ERA) vs. ECU: RH Brett Mabry (1-2, 2.96 ERA)

Elon-East Carolina Series History
Elon and East Carolina have faced each other 70 times prior to Tuesday’s tilt.  Elon is 30-39-1 in those games.  The two teams first met in 1940 with Elon winning 7-1  The Phoenix and ECU have met every year since 2007.  Last year, ECU won both meetings (3-2 in 10 innings in Elon and 4-1 in Greenville).

Tough Competition
Elon always plays a tough schedule and 2013 is no different.  Through its first 39 games, the Phoenix played eight games against teams ranked in the top 25 at the time of the game.  Of those, seven have been against teams rated in the top eight.  No other SoCon team has played more than four games against top-25 opponents.  The maroon and gold’s schedule is currently ranked as the 29th-toughest in the nation.  College of Charleston’s strength of schedule is second-best in the SoCon at 39.

Among the Nation’s Best
In the most recent release issued by the NCAA, four Elon players rank among the Division I active leaders in various categories.  Senior Alex Swim currently is Division I’s active leader with 882 at bats, is third with 266 hits, fifth with 217 games played, fifth with 17 sacrifice flies, 17th with 150 RBI and 33rd with 141 runs scored.  Senior Niko Fraser rates 31st with 11 triples, while senior Nate Young’s 18 saves are currently 24th nationally.  Junior Ryan Kinsella’s 134 RBI are 35th among current players.

RBI Machine
Junior Ryan Kinsella currently leads the SoCon with 56 RBI and is averaging 1.37 RBI per game this season.  In a 15-5 victory over Wofford, Kinsella drove in a career-best seven runs, thanks in part to the first multi-homer game of his time in the maroon and gold.  The seven RBI were the most by an Elon player in a game since Greg Annarummo drove in 10 in a win over Wake Forest on April 22, 2008.

Tough to K
Last season, catcher Alex Swim was one of the toughest hitters in the nation to strike out.  Swim fanned just 13 times in 241 at bats during his junior campaign.  He ranked 12th nationally with one K in every 18.5 at bats.  This year, Swim has struck out 10 times in 179 at bats (once every 17.90 at bats).
