ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's lacrosse is set to do battle with Towson in the CAA Semifinals Friday, May 5, at 6:30 p.m. inside Johnny Unitas Stadium. The matchup between the third-seeded Phoenix and second-seeded Tigers marks the second year in a row the team teams are meeting in the semifinals. Friday's game can be seen on Lax Sports Network.

THE SERIES
The Phoenix has lost each of the four meetings to date against the Tigers, most recently falling during the regular season by the score of 19-7 back on April 9 at Unitas Stadium. Last season, Elon lost both games to the Tigers by just two goals, falling 11-9 in the regular season before losing 9-7 in the CAA Semifinals in Philadelphia.

LAST TIME OUT
Elon earned its fourth win in a row last Saturday, April 29, in a convincing 18-4 win on the road at William & Mary. In the game, Elon scored 15 goals in a row after falling down 3-1 in the early going on the way to the biggest conference win in program history. With 10 first-half goals, the Phoenix has scored at least 10 in the opening frame in three of the last four games. Abby Godfrey, Stephanie Asher and Shelby Scanlin each finished with hat tricks in the win with Godfrey's four leading the way.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS (12-5, 4-2 CAA)
Towson has won five of its last six games since dropping its season-opener to James Madison. The lone loss during the run was a 17-15 loss at Hofstra back on April 16. Towson last played on Sunday, April 30, and earned an 18-5 win over Johns Hopkins at Unitas Stadium. Carly Tellekamp leads the Tigers with 49 goals and Samantha Brookhart 47 assists and 16 goals for a team-high 63 points.

LACROSSE'S HEISMAN
On March 16, Stephanie Asher and Rachel Ramirez were added to the Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List. The two players represent the first Elon athletes to be named to the watch list for the sport's highest honor. Asher's 53 goals this season leads the CAA and is 24th in the country with her 3.12 goals per game 28th in the nation entering the weekend. Ramirez leads the CAA in saves, second in saves per game and third in ground balls. She has made 134 stops this year and has 54 ground balls.

CENTURY SCORER
Stephanie Asher became the program's first player to reach the 100-career goal mark when she scored in the second half against No. 9 Notre Dame back on Feb. 23. She scored at least five goals in a game on four occasions with her season high coming March 26 with six goals against Davidson. The junior set a new program record for goals in a single season with four against Drexel on Friday, April 14, in a 15-2 win at home over the Dragons. She is the only player to log at least 40 goals in a season in program history.

AN ACTIVE LEADER
With 135 career goals, Stephanie Asher is 25th on the NCAA's active goal-scoring list entering the weekend and her 2.70 goals per contest is 14th-best in the country. She is one of just five juniors among the Top 25 active goal scorers in the country in just 50 games played. Asher is also the CAA's active goal scoring leader.

ON THE NATIONAL SCENE
This week, Elon is receiving votes in both the IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse polls. Back on March 6 when Elon was No. 16 in the IL poll, it marked the first time in Elon's four-year history the team was ranked in a national poll.

SIGNATURE WINS
With the Feb. 11 win over No. 13 Virginia and the March 1 victory over No. 19 Virginia Tech, Elon has now defeated three nationally ranked teams over the course of the last two seasons. In 2016, the Phoenix went on the road to No. 10 Duke and won 7-6 in Durham, N.C. Elon owns an all-time record of 3-9 against ACC opponents. Overall against ranked teams, Elon is 3-13 in 16 games to date.

CAA POSTSEASON HONORS
Elon picked up multiple postseason CAA awards on Thursday. Stephanie Asher and Rachel Ramirez both repeated as First Team All-CAA honorees while Sloane Kessler and Alexis Zadjura earned Second Team All-CAA for the second year in a row. Stephanie Thomson also represented Elon on the CAA All-Academic Team for the second season in a row. Both Asher and Ramirez were named Preseason All-CAA honorees while Kessler and Zadjura picked up preseason honorable mentions.

CAA TOURNAMENT INFO
Should Elon win, it would earn its first-ever conference tournament win. In its first season, Elon lost to Detroit in the opening game of the Atlantic Sun Tournament. After missing the CAA Tournament last year, Elon was the No. 3 seed in last year's tourney but fell to Towson, 9-7. Friday's winner will advance to the CAA Final on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. It will face the winner of No. 1 James Madison and No. 4 Delaware on American Sports Network.
