ELON, N.C.—Following a 10-day break, the Elon University women's basketball team will travel to Cullowhee, N.C. for a matchup against Western Carolina at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.
 
COVERAGE
Fans can listen to the game on WSOE 89.3 FM. The game will also be streamed on ESPN+.
 
THE MATCHUP
-Elon leads the overall series, 23-18, winning the past eight matchups.
-The last meeting between the two teams occurred last season at Schar Center on Nov. 9, 2019. The Phoenix defeated the Catamounts, 68-24. Prior to that game, no CAA team has allowed an opponent to score that low of points since at least the 1998-99 season.  
 
SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
-Elon defeated Gardner-Webb in its season opener on Wednesday, Nov. 25, 88-60. Vanessa Taylor paced the Phoenix offense, setting new career highs in points (17), field goals (8) and rebounds (5). Kayla Liles and Saadia Munford followed with 11 points apiece and a combined .700 field goal percentage (7-10). Munford also posted a game-best five assists.
-Evonna McGill and Peyton Carter made their Elon debuts against the Runnin' Bulldogs. McGill finished the game with seven points, shooting 3-of-5 from the field in addition to grabbing a team-high seven boards, while Carter posted six points and three assists.  
-The Phoenix was picked to finish fourth in the CAA preseason poll. Ariel Colón was named a second team honoree, while junior Brie Perpignan was named honorable mention.
-Elon is led by 10th year head coach Charlotte Smith. Her coaching record at Elon currently stands at 163-122, just 10 wins away from breaking the program record for all-time wins.
 
SCOUTING WESTERN CAROLINA
-The Catamounts hold an 0-2 record on the season, falling to UNC Asheville (70-59) and Duke (83-56).
-In WCU's most recent matchup against the Blue Devils, Tembre Moates led the Catamounts with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Kyla Allison followed with 14 points, while Lauren LaPlant finished the game with 11. 
-Western Carolina was predicted to place eighth in the SoCon preseason poll. LaPlant was named to the preseason all-conference team.

UP NEXT
-Elon will travel to Raleigh, N.C. for a 7:15 p.m. contest against #8 NC State on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
