Phoenix Continues Conference Play at Drexel This Weekend

ELON, N.C.— The Elon University women's basketball team will be back on the road to take on Drexel in two Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) matchups on Jan. 23 and 24. Tipoff for both contests is set for 1 p.m.

COVERAGE
Fans can listen to the game on WSOE 89.3 FM. The game will also be streamed on FloHoops.
 
THE MATCHUP
-Drexel leads the overall series, 9-4.
-The Dragons won the most recent matchup on Feb. 23, 2020, 66-47.

SCOUTING THE PHOENIX
-Elon (5-3, 1-1 CAA) split its first weekend of CAA competition against James Madison on Jan. 16 and 17, defeating the Dukes by a 22-point margin (77-55) in the second meeting.
-Evonna McGill paced the Elon offense with 16 points, while Saadia Munford and Kayla Liles followed with 14 points apiece. Jaylin Powell rounded out the double-digit scoring with 11.
-McGill finished the day shooting 7-of-7 from the field, with 10 of her points coming in the first quarter.
-Munford also led the team with a game-best five assists, while Liles totaled the team high in steals (3).  
-The victory against the Dukes marked the first since the Colonial Athletic Association Championship in 2018.
-The Phoenix was picked to finish fourth in the CAA preseason poll. Ariel Colón was named a second team honoree, while Brie Perpignan was named honorable mention.
-Elon is led by tenth year head coach Charlotte Smith. Her coaching record at Elon currently stands at 167-125, just six wins away from breaking the program record for all-time wins.

SCOUTING DREXEL
-Drexel comes into the weekend with a 6-3 (3-1 CAA) record, ranking second in conference standings.   
-The Dragons split their weekend series against William & Mary on Jan. 16 and 17, coming up short in their most recent matchup, 69-53. Hannah Nihill finished with a team-high 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. She shot 7-of-15 from the field and 4-of-7 from deep. Her threes marked a new personal best. Tori Hyduke posted double figures for her first time as a Dragon, recording 11 points on the day.
-The Dragons were predicted to finish second in the CAA preseason poll, earning 65 points and two first-places votes. Two players earned preseason all-conference honors, including Keishana Washington (first team) and Nihill (honorable mention).

UP NEXT
-The Phoenix returns home to host Delaware on Jan. 30 and 31. Both games are scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
